This is a huge generalization, but I feel like if you're into beauty, you have makeup girls and hair girls. And I am definitely a makeup girl. My hair, by nature, is pretty low maintenance (TG), so I focus all of my attention to my face.
I wear makeup whenever I go out in public, and I often get asked what cosmetics I use to achieve my signature "look," so today I'm going to share my must-haves with you, dear reader.
I am born and raised Southern, so I wear a full face to take out the trash. That's just how I'm built. Don't makeup shame me LOL. On a typical day, I don't do falsies, shadow, or contour, but I do make sure my face is beat enough. Because you never know who you're going to run into at Publix.
I am all about the soft dewy look. I like the appearance of being polished without feeling "done." This means I opt for long lashes, finished brows, minimal face base, lots of highlight, and pretty gloss.
I genetically have dark circles, and for the most part, they don't bother me. But I am a sucker for big, bright eyes, so minimizing undereye darkness is high on my priority list when going for beach glowy. I have a daily concealer, and then I have my heavy-duty concealer for Mondays, morning afters, and nighttime lewks. My daily is Urban Decay 24/7 Concealer. It's weightless while still providing coverage, and I feel like they have a decent range of swatches. I hate when concealers come in like three color choices. Not realistic. My super dark and super light babes may still be out of luck on this one, but I would suggest trying it at Sephora or Ulta first to make sure you have a true skin match regardless of your tone. I wear shade FBI, and I'm in love. My face is light, and I like to buy my concealer one shade lighter, so this is the perf color for me.
My hardcore concealer is by Anastasia. This concealer has twice the color range that UD has, and it's thick af, but not in a bad way. I think the way concealer works on you has a lot to do with how it gels with your skin's texture. I could love one that just doesn't work for your skin tone or type and vice versa, so I definitely urge you to try before you buy. Or grab it somewhere online with an exquisite return policy.
A little goes a long way with this concealer, and it works great with a concealer brush, beauty blender, or clean fingertip. I'm obsessed. I saw some reviewers say that the smell is off putting, which I get, but it goes on so quickly that it doesn't bother me one bit.
So eyes are my thing. I like my eye/eyelash/brow situation, so I always try to highlight that (pun slightly intended). I am uber meticulous about which products I use on my eyes, and I am a self-proclaimed mascara snob. I'm not a snob in the sense that my mascara has to be expensive or designer, but I'm a quality snob. I think you can more easily get a winning mascara at the drugstore than you can at a high-end department store. There. I said it. And I pretty much loathe every mascara that everyone else raves about. Diorshow? Hate it. Better Than Sex? Not even close. Maybelline Great Lash? Gag me with a spoon.
My secret to an optimal lash attack is two coats of different mascaras. My FAVORITE of all time is Cover Lash Exact. I cannot stand clumpy lashes, so this mascara makes them fuller and longer without sacrificing the integrity of the natural lash. (I hate myself for writing that sentence and being totally serious.) I'll have to do a tutorial on how I apply it because I am convinced that application makes the biggest difference. I then do a coat of bareMinerals Lash Dominance. It really makes the lashes pop, which makes your eyes appear bigger. Yas queen.
Now, to brows. I am obsessive about brows. (Aren't we all??) I am personally not a fan of overly done cartoon character brows for daytime. Sorry not sorry. I like a lined brow, don't get me wrong, but I still want to look like I maybe was born with these babies. I use two products religiously: Benefit Brow Zings and Benefit Gimme Brow. I also really want to try Glossier's Boy Brow *heart eyes emoji*. My left eyebrow is goals, and my right eyebrow is literally filled with shame, so I have to werk it by filling that sucker in every. single. day. But it's so worth it. Your brows are important, guys! Treat them like the queens they are.
Highlighter is a yes from me. I love a beach glowy look at all times, so I have to highlight the sh*t out my face to achieve this. I have the Anastasia Glow Kit in Gleam, and it is phenomenal. My mom also has it in Sun Dipped, and that palette is so sexy for summer. Def buying it immediately. I mix "Starburst" and "Hard Candy" for a dewy blush, and I top it with "Crushed Pearl" for even more glow. I even use that shade to highlight my brow bone, cupid's bow, and inner eyelids. It's gorgeous. I also have the Jaclyn Hill x Becca highlighter compact in "Champagne Pop," but it's a more severe highlight IMO, so I usually save this one for night. If you're more of a liquid highlight kind of girl, I recommend NARS Illuminator in "Copacabana." They have other shades, too, but I live for this one. Highlighter is an integral component to a gleamy look. It makes you look like you're young, fresh, and on a tropical vacay indefinitely. I actually don't mind shine, but if you're super concerned about flashback, test these products out before you rock them to a big event.
What do you guys think of my makeup musts? Do you have any other faves that fall into these categories? I'm so in love with all of these products, and I hope you will be, too. <3
